Unincorporated Kentfield California was named after
congressman and philanthropist William Kent. Also a successful
businessman, Kent purchased 611 acres of old growth forest
along Redwood Creek in 1905 and later donated a portion of it
to the federal government. This land, now called Muir Woods,
was designated as a National Monument by President Theodore
Roosevelt.
Situated at
the base of Mount Tamalpais, Kentfield is home to the College
of Marin. Although Kentfield has no "downtown", it is bordered
by Larkspur and Ross.
