Mill Valley is as rich in history
as it is in beauty. Beginning in the early 1800’s, John Reed
received the first
Mexican land grant north of San Francisco Bay. In 1836
he built a saw mill on Cascade Creek to provide wood for the
construction of his house and for the Presidio in Yerba Buena
(San Francisco.) Old Mill Park is where the restored saw
mill now sits and is just a short walk from the quaint
downtown area in Mill Valley.
Incorporated in 1900, Mill Valley is bordered by the Golden
Gate National Recreation Area, Muir Woods National Monument
and Mt. Tamalpais State Park. It is a mecca for outside
recreation. Imagine hiking or biking from your front door to
either Muir Beach or Stinson Beach! Mill Valley is home of
the Art Walk where on the first Tuesday of the month,
beautiful art work is displayed in the streets of downtown.
The Fall Arts Festival is another cultural event not to be
missed. It has been running annually for 48 years! Mill
Valley is also home to the Dipsea Race which began in 1905 and
has grown each year since. Greater Mill Valley also
includes Strawberry, Tamalpais Valley and Homestead Valley
homes and real estate.
