Incorporated
in 1907, San Anselmo is full of history and charm. In 1874
the North Pacific Coast Railroad added a spur track from San
Anselmo to San Rafael and in 1875 the railroad completed a
line from Sausalito to Tomales via San Anselmo. Today, this
area is known as “The Hub,” where five roads converge. Indian
artifacts are still occasionally discovered near the Hub,
hinting that it was probably a center of activity for the
Miwok Indians as well.
If you enjoy
antiques, visit the town’s main shopping area on San Anselmo
Avenue. There among the cafes, galleries, restaurants and
boutiques you are sure to find that special piece. The area
is known as the “Antique Capital of Northern California.”
