Rancho Del Sausalito, meaning ranch of
the little willows, was the original name of the land grant
given to William Richardson in 1838. The land grant included
all of the Marin Headlands in addition to a natural spring.
From the spring, Richardson collected water and sold it to
other ships that were far away from their home ports.
Today, Sausalito is a bustling
international tourist destination with picturesque views of
the Tiburon Peninsula, Angel Island and San Francisco. On any given day
you will find many people shopping at the eclectic boutiques
and galleries on the waterfront. You will also find those
enjoying the sites of the historic downtown area where the
1904 park site of the Plaza Vina Del Mar gives access to the
ferry boat landing. Sausalito's real estate is among the
most sought after in all of Marin County. The wonderful mix of homes in Sausalito
with architectural styles which range from Victorian to
Mediterranean, also include funky houseboats
which line the
bay and are unique to Sausalito.
